While progressing through the ranks, Master Carter was an avid tournament competitor, competing in local as well as national ranked open karate tournaments. He has won numerous awards in weapons , forms (Kata) , fighting , and breaking. While at a local tournament he was introduced to a man who would change the way he looked at the Martial Arts forever. That man was Grandmaster Jack Hogan. While bringing in a legend in the Martial Arts world Prof. Wally Jay (founder of Small Circle Jujitsu) to do a little demonstration on the seminar he was having. Hogan was on the side with a small group of Black Belts, revealing the secret hidden meanings held within Kata, and the use of Kyusho Jitsu ( Pressure Point fighting). Master Carter (then a new Black Belt), was introduced to the art in which the old masters kept a secret for hundreds of years.

He quickly knew that this was something he had to have, so he decided to begin his training under Grandmaster Hogan. Since that time he has had the privilege of studying with some of the top Grandmasters of the world. People like Grandmaster George Dillman, Professor Wally Jay, and the Late Professor Remy Presas. Master Carter considers himself a constant student. Always studying to prefect his art, and self character, which he hopes to instill within his students.
